Portugal has seen consistent investment in infrastructure over the past decade and has picked up multiple MICE-industry awards along the way — a compact, easy-to-navigate country that punches well above its weight for corporate events, congresses and incentive travel.
In Lisbon, Europe's west-coast tech capital and host city of Web Summit, groups land at Humberto Delgado Airport around 15 minutes from the centre — with direct flights from every major European hub and non-stop routes from the US East Coast — and meet at the riverside Centro de Congressos de Lisboa or the 20,000-capacity MEO Arena.
In Porto, the Ribeira riverside has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, the Douro's port wine lodges open their cellars for tastings and dinners, and the Alfândega — a converted 19th-century customs house — is one of Europe's most awarded congress centres. Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport sits about 20 minutes from the centre with direct European connections.
Further south, the Algarve coast adds roughly 300 days of sunshine a year — a popular extension for groups who want to add downtime to the agenda, even though our own delivery teams are based in Lisbon and Porto.

Which cities in Portugal do you cover?
Our two Portuguese hubs are Lisbon and Porto, each run by the same senior team that delivers our Spanish events — one contract, one project lead, one accountable point of contact. We regularly pair the two cities, or combine either with a Spanish destination, on multi-city programmes. For events further south, including the Algarve, get in touch and we'll advise honestly on what's achievable.
Do you cover both Spain and Portugal with one team?
Yes. Protocol has operated across Iberia since 1997, so a Portugal programme is delivered by the same senior team, to the same standard, as an event in Madrid or Barcelona — one contract, one accountable senior project manager, and no hand-offs between local agencies.
When is the best time of year for a corporate event in Portugal?
May to June and September to October are ideal in both cities — warm, dry and reliable enough to commit to riverside dinners and terrace receptions months in advance. Winters are mild in both Lisbon and Porto, offering good value for indoor conferences; just avoid clashing with Web Summit in Lisbon in early November, when hotel rates spike citywide.
How far in advance should we book a Portugal event?
Four to six months is comfortable for most Porto programmes, six to nine for large Lisbon congresses or peak shoulder-season dates. Five-star inventory is smaller in both cities than in Madrid or Barcelona, so headline hotels fill early — talk to us even on short notice, as our supplier relationships open doors that public availability does not show.
Does your team work in English and other languages?
Yes. We work in English, Portuguese, Spanish, German and French across every stage, from proposals to on-site coordination and supplier management, with further European languages on request. International delegates and your head office are looked after in their own language throughout the event.
Which destinations do you cover beyond Portugal?
We operate across 20+ destinations in Spain and Portugal, including Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Bilbao and Mallorca, with one accountable team coordinating multi-city programmes. We scale from leadership offsites of 15–20 people to congresses of several thousand delegates, with a senior project manager leading every event regardless of size.
